SMS from Mariupol
The exhibition „SMS from Mariupol“ was organised in the Stadtpalais Stuttgart will be presented from 20 December 2022 to 5 January 2023 and has a large Gained resonance. Anyone who watches or listens to the news will be familiar with the Ukrainian harbour city of Mariupol, which has been through unbearably dark times, but they are not over yet: The besieged city lies in ruins, hundreds of thousands of people are homeless and on the run.
Oleg Koptsev, 20, student at Kharkiv University. In the first days of the Russian invasion, Oleg was evacuated from Kharkiv to Lviv. However, his parents were imprisoned in Mariupol and were unable to escape. From 4 to 17 March, his parents hid from the shelling in the cellar.
Since the first days of the war, all of Mariupol's inhabitants have had neither internet nor mobile phone reception. Later, they were cut off from the electricity grid and left without gas, heating and water. Liliia Koptseva, 47, wrote text messages to her son in which she described her life under constant bombardment, like in a diary. The project recounts the experiences of various protagonists who were trapped in Mariupol by the war. The photos were taken by the renowned Ukrainian photojournalists Evgeniy Maloletka and Mstyslav Chernov.
On the opening day, the film „Mariupolis 2“ was shown, by Lithuanian filmmaker Mantas Kvedaravicius, who died as a result of the brutal Russian attack in Mariupol this year.
As part of the closing event
organised a literary panel discussion and by our Board of Directors, who are aware of thesociety on the issues of war andtraumas and mental health. Shown The short films about the city were also Mariupol.
The screening of films served to raise awareness of thefor the city of Mariupol. Four of these came from the TU Art Platform, three from Yuliia Hontaruk of the Babylon13 platform and one from Sofiia Melnyk, alumni of the Film Academy in Ludwigsburg. They tell stories about everyday life, the future and Dreams of the past and the realities of war. The international music project „SUN“ with the singer Ksenia Ivanova, who was born in Mariupol and has been living in Stuttgart for a long time, opened and closed the events.
