Our project is a realisation of the European idea of multilingualism, unity in diversity and the flow of literary works between cultures and languages. In this way, we hope to make Ukrainian literature accessible in a concentrated form in German-speaking countries.
Between the turmoil of war and the difficulties of refugee life, it remains important for both the new arrivals and their host countries to gain an insight into the culture and literature of Ukraine.
Ukrainian Studio for Culture and Sport e.V. together with Schenk publishing house In this way, we hope to make Ukrainian literature accessible in a concentrated form to readers in German-speaking countries as well as to the Ukrainian reading public.
The programme was developed in cooperation with «Publisher XXI» and «Anetta Antonenko Publishing House» twenty contemporary works by authors from the Ukrainian-speaking world have been selected on the basis of their literary value and genre diversity.
The programme includes eleven works that will be translated from Ukrainian into German and one novel will be translated from German into Ukrainian.
These contemporary works by Ukrainian authors have been selected for their literary power and thematic diversity - a reflection of Ukraine's vibrant literary scene. Written by voices that need to be heard. For many, these books represent a piece of home. For others, they open a new window into an unknown, fascinating world.
A further eight books were printed in the original Ukrainian language! The response exceeded all expectations: The project met with great interest and broad support, particularly within the Ukrainian community in the DACH region.
More than 75 Organisations - including three universities, seven schools and numerous libraries, cultural centres and associations - were supplied with contemporary Ukrainian literature as part of the project. In addition, over 200 private individuals received literature packages with current Ukrainian books. The project thus made a significant contribution to the visibility of contemporary Ukrainian literature in German-speaking countries.
