Crime: Memory and Resistance

May 21, 18:00 - 18:30
Free

On 21.05. We invite you to a special evening in the experimental space — a space for stories, music, remembrance, and exchange.
Actually, in Ukraine, on May 18, the victims of the genocide of the Crimean Tatars are commemorated — a painful and central day of remembrance for the Crimean Tatar community and for the entire Ukraine.
On May 21st, the Day of Wyschywanka, we connect these two significant dates in our own way: as a sign of remembrance, cultural strength, and a vibrant Ukrainian-Crimean Tatar identity.

The centerpiece of the evening is the presentation and discussion of Olena Bogatyrenko’s book: „What Did Russia’s Occupation of Crimea Mean?“ Olena Bogatyrenko is from Crimea and has dedicated many years of her work to the history, culture, and voices of the Ukrainian peninsula. As an author, editor, and cultural manager, she focuses particularly on the memory of the Russian occupation, the experiences of people from the Crimea, and the visibility of Crimean and Ukrainian perspectives. In her book, she collects the voices of twelve women who experienced the beginning of Russia’s occupation of Crimea—personal stories of loss, identity, resistance, and memory.

A special highlight of the evening is the musical performance of Lenara Osmanova — a renowned Crimean singer, actress, and activist. With traditional and emotional songs, she brings the voice and soul of Crimea to the stage. At the end, she shows all the guests the symbolic Crimean dance „Haytarma – Return“. This evening is not a traditional book presentation.
It is a space for listening, feeling, remembering, and gathering together.
