Insight into Ukrainian literature as part of the Babel Matrix anthology
Ukrainian Magic Cube was created to make Ukrainian literature visible across language and national borders. On the multilingual platform, excerpts from literary works by contemporary and classical Ukrainian authors can be found – always in the original and simultaneously translated.
The website is an evolution of Babel Matrix, an interactive web anthology that puts the art of literary translation at the center and shows the central role that translators play in the international dialogue of literature.
Our cooperation project was funded by European Education and Culture Executive Agency supported and united by strong partners: Typotex Publishing Ltd. from Hungary, Schenk Verlag GmbH and that Ukrainian Atelier for Culture and Sport e.V. from Germany as well as three Ukrainian publishing houses – Books-XXI, Anetta Antonenko Publishers and Astrolabe Publishing. As former lead developer of BabelMatrix, Typotex Publishing took on the technical implementation: development, testing phase, and launch of the new platform.
On the website, authors, translators, and publishers have their own profile pages. The texts presented can be found either via the respective publishing sites, the author pages, or an alphabetical index. The Ukrainian Magic Cube is thus not just a digital archive, but an invitation: to rediscover Ukrainian literature, to get to know the diversity of voices – and to make them audible together in Europe.
